You know it's a great time for cars when people are thumbing their nose at a 500+hp stock Camaro. Not saying the car is perfect but sheesh.

GT500
~550hp
~3800lb
Z28
~550 LSA CTS-V
~3900 Camaro SS (one would assume Z28 to be even heavier..)
Wonder if the interior update/re-do is going in with the introduction of the Z28?
[corrected engine code for CTS-V]

Certainly wont be the slowest 500hp car, since it wont be quite as heavy as the 500hp luxo sendans. However Z28 is likely to be several hundred pounds heavier than the GT500. GM going to bump up the HP for the Z28?
[removed reference to the LS8 as that it's apparently quite upsetting]

WTF is the LS8? The engine in the CTS-V and the rumored Z28 engine is the LSA.
Will they bump the horsepower? Possibly. We're still a year away from the '12s hitting the streets and it's likely that the Z28 will have a later introduction.

Yeah I think he's confusing the LSA with LS8 . Unless there is some super secret new engine with parts from the LSA and LS9 just for the Camaro

some earlier reports listed an engine titled the LS8 as another variant of a SC engine that may be utilized for the Z28 so still had that engine code on the brain for some reason.

I wonder if gm is going to price it around the base C6 or charge some insane amount to keep the vette their flagship car.

Hopefully. I just find it hard to believe chevy will have a camaro with another 100hp than the vette priced similarly to it.

Evan Smith will get 11s out of the 2011 GT500.
He went 11s in the 2010.

Sure. But what would he run in a CTSV? You need to hold the driver constant.

Last years CTSV sedan with the 6M was less than 1 tenth and 1 mph slower.

A couple people have run their 11's at the track. 12.2 and 12.3 at 117-118. Not bad for the summer. Looks like it might be a drivers race against the cts-v

CTS-V hooking better with better tires and traction control? One can assume the Z28 is not going to have the level of sophistication (expense) put in the CTS-V. Z28's weight may be a more damning issue for it to over come.

Traction/suspension, gearing, power curve, etc. A lot of possibilities.

I think it's pretty obvious when the driver loses 1 1/2 car lengths on a 1-2 shift, and the gt500 had 2-3mph on it in the 1/4. Either way an auto is going to be a hell of a lot easier to launch on the street with that much power so those are probably real world results for an auto vs 6-speed.

That having been said, it's not just about the 1/4 mile. The GT500 with the SVT package will pull 1.01G on the skidpad, has a 60-0 braking distance of 99 ft (only 3 feet more than a Corvette ZR1), and a slalom speed of 70 mph. GM needs to do more than just drop a more powerful motor into the SS and call it a day.

Get rid of the Z06 and give the base vette the LSA or whatever the z28 is giving. They only sold 500 Z06's last year so it's not like it will be missed.

Looks to me like he lost half a car length, maybe one car length max, not 1.5 on the shift.
The Cadillac is geared much more aggressively than the GT500, and with traction permitting, the faster 0-60 time, better 1/4 mile ET but lower mph might make sense. The caddy shifts 4 times in that race to GT500's 3 times.
